Mediation Skills Competition for UK Students 2012
The Worshipful Company of Arbitrators is delighted to announce the results of its second UK Mediation Skills Competition held in London from Friday 13 January to Sunday 15 January 2012.
The Competition was won by the team from London Metropolitan University, Leah Angelle Boyer and Ryan O’Donnell. Their coach was William McKay a senior lecturer at the university. They will travel to Paris in February to take part in the ICC Seventh International Commercial Mediation Competition.
The runners up in an extremely close final were Joanne Grey and Catherine Maclaine from Northumbria University.
The Master's Award for the best relationship building with the other team went to the University of the West of England represented by Sophie Beesley and Natasha Bellinger. The CIArb President's Prize for best advocacy skills was won by Richard Collins and Anjum Kasmani from City University London.
The Company is indebted to the experienced practitioners who gave so generously of their time to act as mediators and judges officials during the competition. We are also thankful to Sir Gary Higginbottom who presented the prizes.
The Company is most grateful to the sponsors and supporters. Bird & Bird LLP who hosted the competition, UBS AG, Allen & Overy LLP, Linklaters LLP and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators who along with the Company’s own Charitable Trust provided funding; HM Courts and Tribunals Service who allowed us to use the Rolls Building for the heats on the first day of the competition; the ICC in Paris and all those volunteers who gave their time unstintingly to help make the Competition a success.
