Lunch on HQs Wellington

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

On 22nd March I joined a party of fifty Mistresses and a Consort for a lunch on HQS Wellington hosted by the Mistress Master Mariner Mrs Joanna Parrott.

After the introductions we were split into groups for a tour of the ship. During this tour we were told the history of the ship from her service in the Pacific, to her role as a convoy escort ship during the war and then the conversion to the Livery Hall of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners. We were also told the story of the Ohio Bell and how Malta annually asks for it to be given to the island. The history of shipping was told through the wonderful models on display. I now know the difference between a barque and a schooner.

After our tour we met on the quarter deck for a drinks reception before going down for a splendid lunch in the Court Room.
