Visit to Regents Park Mosque and Lecture on Sharia Law

The status of Islamic Law in English Law was addressed during the Company's visit to Regents Park Mosque on 3rd October 2011. Members of the Company and their guests listened intently to a paper on the subject given by Omar Ensaff, Barrister who is a member of No 5 Chambers. Mr Ensaff has kindly provided the text of his speech which is accessible below. Mr Ensaff nas studied Aquida (Islamic tenets of faith) and Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence with Sunni Muslem scholars.

Also speaking was Dr Suhaib Hasan, Secretary General of the Islamic Law Centre and member of the Sharia Council who gave an insight into the way in which that Council offers advice and guidance from an Islamic perspective on Sharia law in matters such as marriage, divorce, financial affairs, business ethics, prayer, religious observation and other areas of everyday life.

A fascinating session was followed by refreshments courtesy of the Mosque.
