Our Arbitration Competition for UK Law Students took place over the weekend of 20th to 22nd January 2023 at the offices of BCLP close to the Monument in the City of London. The competition was open to eligible law students, trainees or pupils in chambers.

The competition provided an excellent opportunity to participate in an Arbitration from start to finish with the teams experiencing the different aspects of the process from cross examining expert witnesses to submissions on the law and facts. Those competing had the opportunity to practice their advocacy skills and learn from an experienced panel of Arbitrators who heard the matter and provided invaluable feedback.

Congratulations to all participants, in particular:

Best Team – Law Commission Assistants
Masters Award – City University
BCLP Award – Beth Payne
Best Advocated voted by arbitrators – Emmanuel Michelakakis-Howe
Best Advocate voted by participants – Alex Fernandes
Best Costs Argument – 39 Essex Chambers
Special Award Best Witness Role Play – Derek Nelson
Special Award Funniest Witness – Nigel Young

A further competition is intended for 2025 – watch this space.
