Annual Master’s Lecture
The Master’s Lecture 2026
The Master’s Lecture 2026 was given on Tuesday 31 March 2026 by Samuel Townend KC, Past Chair of the Bar Council of England and Wales (2024).
The title of the Lecture was “What is the role of experts in modern dispute resolution – independent and dutiful or hired guns…..?”.
In his Lecture, Samuel Townend reviewed the various problems that had arisen with expert evidence since the case of The Ikarian Reefer, and the various inconsistent efforts made to resolve them. He proposed a more consistent and more appropraite approach, informed by experience in arbitration as well as the English and other Common Law Courts, for consideration.
We are very grateful to Samuel Townend KC for giving the Lecture, and to Rathbones Group Plc for hosting the event.
