MARCH 17TH 2021
On March 17th 1981 the creation of the Worshipful Company was approved by Resolution of the Court of Aldermen of the City of London at Guildhall.
The first Court Meeting was held on 2nd April, and on 21st July 1981 Letters Patent under Mayoral seal were issued. The Company thereby became the 93rd in the List of Livery Companies of the City of London.
Its co-founders were John Phillips CBE QC, the Inaugural Master, Clifford Clark TD, the second Master, and the Founding Clerk Bertie Vigrass OBE VRD. John Phillips had previously served as the Hon. President of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), and the formation of the Worshipful Company followed the grant of CIArb’s Royal Charter in 1979.
Today there remain seven members of the Company who joined in 1981, most of whom are in active and regular contact.
We shall be celebrating the Ruby Anniversary in person as far as regulations and guidance allow us to meet, and until then we shall be continuing our remote offering (Seminars and Socials) to Members of the Company and invitees.
