2011 Visit to HMS Mersey

The Master and other members of the Worshipful Company and friends visited HMS Mersey whilst she was docked in Portsmouth.

The Commanding Officer of HMS Mersey, Lieutenant Commander Mark Anderson RN, who took over on 3rd February 2011 greeted the visitors on board on a sunny Sunday morning on 7th August 2011. The tour of the ship was as always well received by the visitors as was the presentation by the Captain during which he explained the role of the Royal Navy as well as the Fishery Protection Squadron. A splendid lunch courtesy of Mersey was arranged in the wardroom of the shore establishment HMS Nelson, a room full of history. After lunch a visit to HMS Warrior had been arranged for us and the comparison between a modern warship and one 150 years older was marked. The day was one full of interest and the Company is, as ever, most grateful to the officers and crew for taking the time to look after us.
